What are studs in the wall?

If you’ve ever looked at the construction of a drywall, you may have noticed the vertical beams placed evenly throughout the wall. These are called studs, and they provide support and stability to the drywall.

Studs are usually made from wood, but can also be made from metal or plastic. They’re placed in the wall at regular intervals (usually 16 or 24 inches on center) and help to support the weight of the drywall. The studs also provide a place to attach nails or screws, which is important for hanging pictures or other decorations.

It’s important to know how to find and use studs. Luckily, there are a few simple tricks that can help you locate them. With a little practice, you’ll be an expert at finding studs in no time!

Finding the studs

In order to find the studs in the wall, there are a few tools that you will need. The first tool that you will need is a stud finder. A stud finder is a small hand-held device that uses magnets to detect the nails or screws that are used to hold the drywall in place. The second tool that you will need is a tape measure. You will use the tape measure to measure the distance between the studs. The third tool that you will need is a hammer. You will use the hammer to tap on the wall until you find a solid area.

Once you have gathered all of your tools, you will need to find an area of the wall where there are no outlets or switches. This is because these objects are usually attached to the studs and it will be easier to find them if they are not in the way.

What if the studs are in the wrong place

As mentioned before, there is an optimal space where you should mount the TV on the wall. If the studs are located in a place where you can’t mount the TV properly, it is likely you cannot count on those studs to mount the television. You need an alternative, a plan be, so you can still enjoy the benefits of a mounted TV.

There are three main ways to mount a TV on the wall without using the studs. Ceiling mount, using anchors and mounting plates. For the purpose of this article, we are going to avoid any type of installation, so we are going to explore the mounting plate option.

Mount the TV on the mounting plate

In a TV wall mount, there is a mounting plate attached to the mechanical arm that is installed to the wall. So if you are planning to use a mounting plate, you will attach it to the TV the same way you would in a wall mount setup. However instead of installing the mounting plate to the wall, you have to install it in a floor stand, or ceiling mount.

The ceiling mount option isn’t very common, as visually it may not look as good as a TV standing floor. As mentioned before, the TV should be mounted at a specific height, so it can be comfortable enough for people to sit down and watch a movie, the daily news or play video games. If you use a ceiling mount for this purpose, the arm mounted to the ceiling is usually very long and, therefore, not visually friendly.

If you use a TV stand floor, the setup looks much better. In fact, if you choose a modern stand model, it will look like the TV is mounted on the wall. The stand will have an elevated mounting plate, in which you can mount the TV upon.

Most of the mounting plates are VESA compatible, and so are the televisions in the market today. However, you should also check the compatibility of the mounting plate and TV, as some brands, like Apple, don’t allow interface with other brands. If this is the case of your TV, you need to source the mounting plate from the same manufacturer of your television, or a factory appointed from such a company.

Advantages of using TV stands with mounting plates

There are many advantages of using TV stands instead of TV wall mounts. Perhaps, the most important one is that you don’t have to install the TV on the wall. In can be very useful if the studs inside the wall are not positioned in a location viable to mount the TV on the wall, if you can’t afford or don’t know how to mount the TV on the wall, of even if you are renting and the landlord doesn’t allow tenants to perform installations and drill holes on the wall.

Another important feature and advantage of TV floor stands is the extra storage space this option gives to its users. As they are designed to be lean and let the room clean, they are not bulky, so the storage space is limited. However, it is enough to keep a stereo, video game console, remote controls, spare cables and batteries and other accessories necessary in your TV room.

Last, but definitely not least, modern and well-designed TV floor stands with mounting plates also come with cable management features. It means you can hide all the cables, just like if you would by using a TV wall mount.
